Retro Housewife: A Salute to the Suburban Superhero

Retro Housewife – An Attentive Wife Day 4

Part time, home-based businesses gave housewives a chance to earn their own and comes. When Avon launched at Avon calling campaign in 1954, more than two-thirds of Avon employees were women. The company carried more than 500 products and exceeded $55 million in sales annually.

A 1951 Hotpoint automatic dishwasher advertisement directed husbands to “join the 1000 men today who are free in their wives from dish pan drudgery!” The new machine washed, rinse, and dried to save wives a whopping hour of work a day.

In the mid-1950s, a “he-man sized Brandy sniffer” catered well to any husband who like to healthy portion of drink after work. Even nicer on the household budget, this bargain I don’t sold at Macy’s for only $0.49.
